The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Florida Chapter is pleased to announce our Annual Addison Mizner Award Design Competition for Excellence in Classical and Traditional Architecture. The Addison Mizner Awards was founded in 2012 to celebrate the achievements of the finest practioners and design firms who excel in the advancement and promotion of the ideals of classicism and traditional design in the fields of Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Urbanism, as well as, Craftsmanship and the Allied Arts. The awards are named for Addison Mizner, the architect whose civic and domestic works defined the standards of excellence in compostion and craftsmanship for classical and traditional design in the early years of urban development in Florida.
Recipients are selected annually by a jury of peers selected from among architects, designers and academics recognized for their knowledge of and experience in the practice and theory of classical and traditional architecture through a blind adjudication process.
The Jury process considers the following in their deliberations:
Classical design is that portion of the spectrum of traditional design which has achieved the most articulate, and most refined expression.
High Classical design is often reserved for society's most important structures, such as government and institutional buildings, places of worship, memorials or museums.
Vernacular design often represents regional building typologies and uses of regional materials. Vernacular structures may have only a few explicity classical elements, but they should observe the conceptual, compostitional and tectonic principles of classical design.

RENOVATION & ADDITION Projects in this category should make clear delineations between ‘before’ and ‘after’, existing structures that remain, and new work and additions. Clarity of the applicant's scope of work should be clear in the presentation.
PLANNING AND URBAN DESIGN CRAFTSMANSHIP Projects in this category represent works of arts and crafts created as a permanent element of an architectural project. Entrants should be directly involved in the specific design or execution of the work.
FINE ARTS Projects in this category should have been created in association with architectural projects, be related to design and placemaking, or be a depiction of the built environment.

Projects in this category should represent work completed in an academic setting within the past 5 years. Active students may submit projects located in Florida and the Caribbean. Recent graduates who are currently employed at an ICAA member firm in the awards region may submit any student project, regardless of location. Applicants must be current members of ICAA at the time of submission. Projects may represent any of the below categories.
